The longest-standing member of Steven's team, Metagross has been by Steven's side since they were both young. He raised it from its days as a Beldum even before embarking on his journey, fostering the strong bond that can only be seen between a Trainer and their partner Pokémon. That bond takes physical form in its ability to Mega Evolve, making Metagross Steven's main powerhouse and trump card in battle. Said bond also manifests itself in Metagross' fierce devotion and loyalty to Steven, acting as both an intellectual partner and confidante. The two have a deep mutual trust and understanding, and combined with Metagross' psychic abilities, they have a clear way to communicate that he and his other Pokémon do not. But despite its gruff-looking composure, Metagross will show a friendlier side to anyone it deems worthy. Its ability to float using magnetism also makes for great transportation!

Its Mega Stone is set into a steel band wrapped around its front right leg.

Acting as the tactical lead and support in Steven's team, Skarmory prides himself on its attack, speed, and overall reliability to be a pain in the ass in battle. This capability reflects in his personality being quite self-absorbed and impatient, which can put him at odds with people and Pokémon alike. He also tends to act aloof and "cool" in order to impress others and keep up appearances. Still, as a long-standing member of his team, Skarmory greatly respects Steven and will obey him without hesitation. When he's not preening and sharpening his feathers, he acts as Steven's fastest and most reliable method of travel.

If one were to give definition to the phrase "gentle giant", Aggron would be a perfect example. Despite his fierce, intimidating looks, Aggron might just be the softest soul you'll ever meet. He's easily pacified with cuddles and rubs from anyone willing to dish them out, basically becoming the world's most affectionate lap-dinosaur if you know his weak spots. That being said, Aggron means business  on the battlefield. His moveset versatility alone means that an attack from him can be completely unpredictable - if you're not careful, you'll find yourself facing an unexpected type disadvantage. His steel armor makes his defenses near-impenetrable unless you can exploit a weakness... if that Roar doesn't send you running first.

Carbink is one of Steven's newest team members, having been caught during his travels in Kalos while studying the roots of Mega Evolution. Despite its newbie status, it has proven itself to not only be a strong and capable battler, but adept at being a calm intermediary for inter-team squabbles. It loves being cuddled just as much as Steven loves cuddling it - especially when it comes to behind-the-ear scratches.

Unlike Aggron, this little Aron prefers helping Steven dig in caves for rare stones to battling. Her ability to sniff out iron ores has been refined and trained to detect other kinds of metallic substances, and her small size makes it easier to dig out specimens and squeeze into tight spots. For that reason, Steven has outfitted her with an Everstone to keep her from evolving until she feels like she's ready. Besides her assistance in caving, her most prominent defining trait is her gluttony.
