[ damn it. something like that... it's hard to tell if this is really frisk, or the robot that's been following them for the past week and a half. it's concerning, and his intuition can't read something like this.
he wants to believe. he'll follow along for now, but stay alert and not reveal any more than necessary. ]
[ So, hell is breaking loose and there's nobody she can rely on except for herself, once again. Earth seraphim are supposed to be stable, tough, and support everyone else, so she'll throw herself into protecting the ones she cares about (even if she'll never willingly admit the latter). ]
[ by the time steven has the time and energy to respond to edna's message, he still isn't sure he can give a positive response. after killing several robots that looked like his friends (and begged for mercy like them), your emotional well-being is bound to take a hit no matter how strong you are.
he considers lying to edna and saying that he's fine, but he knows that she'd catch it; it would make the situation worse. when he responds, his voice sounds exhausted. ]
[ The reaction is faster than he (or she, honestly)'d probably expected, but here they are. She can assume a fair number of things about what might've happened, with the yandere robots running out and about, but again. Assuming things. ]
In summary of the past twenty-four hours: kidnapping, forcible confinement, and several killings of robots with striking resemblances to people I wouldn't hesitate to call my friends.
[ he told her what she asked, but he isn't looking for pity - he hopes she isn't taking it that way. if anything, he's happy to hear that she's managed to avoid the kind of turmoil he's been through. ]
Because I'm coming over, whether you like it or not.
[ She won't come with a lecture or anything, just...silent support, structure, stability. She's not good at expressing her care through words, but actions. ]
I'm not going to force you to talk your feelings out or whatever. Just saying.
[ there's a long pause before he responds. he's certainly not in the best state for company, no... but if he refuses, he'll probably end up worrying her, or worse - she'll come over anyway. besides that, he should probably be grateful that she's offering a helping hand to him, as sharp as it is. ]
I'm not sure how proper of a host I can be at the moment, but you're certainly welcome.
It's fine. I'm still getting used to having any sort of reception at all.
[ A couple hundreds of years of isolation on a mountain does that to someone. Even after knowing that resonance is wonky here in the colony, it's still old habit to reflexively think that people can't perceive her. True to her word though, she'll head on over in approximately 15 minutes, with a knock or few on the door. ]
[ knowing that she'll be coming over, he's made sure to have a psychic-type by his side to make sure he can see her properly - beldum is actually the one who answers the door, greeting her with a welcoming chirp. ]
Come in.
[ the voice comes from the kitchen, where steven is brewing a pot of tea with carbink by his side. he needs to at least try to make an effort to host her properly, emotional trauma notwithstanding. but edna will probably notice that he's not quite himself when she gets a look at him - what looks to be a small bruise is forming on his cheek, and the beginnings of dark circles under his eyes speak volumes about the kind of sleep he's been getting. still, he's put together enough to smile softly when he sees her. ]
[Greetings, Steven. Whenever he gets to checking his CereVice, he'll find a lovely audio message from his good pal, Frisk.
... Or, at least, he would if there was anything recorded in it at all.
From start to finish, it's a 5 seconds long recording of absolutely nothing. Paying close attention to the recording might allow him to hear what might be Frisk breathing close to their CereVice, but other than that... Nothing.
[... Or maybe not, because there's a third message. This one only lasts about two seconds, and you can definitely hear Frisk taking a sharp inhale of breath before hanging up. Almost like they want to say something but couldn't decide on what, so they shut the recording off as quickly as possible.
[The three previous recordings aside, there's a fourth one with a timestamp dated to a minute or so after the third one. It starts out just as silence of the previous messages, but after a second, they speak up.]
... Are you okay?
[Said in the quietest voice possible. They suck and that's not quite what they wanted to say, but it's close enough.]
[ in all honesty, he's seen better days. he's feeling better after spending time with otome and resting properly, but the strain of yesterday's events is still weighing on his mind somewhat. still, that's not the kind of truth that frisk needs to hear right now. they've been through a lot themselves, and their well-being is important, too.
accustomed to danger or not, they're still a child. ]
[Which is a boldfaced lie, but. Hey. Does it matter if they're okay or not okay? Nah, man. It doesn't. There are better things to do than fretting over their own well being. Making sure Steven is okay is one of those things.
So they follow up with:]
... Worried about you, though. Made you do something that... you shouldn't have. Wasn't your responsibility.
