[ considering he's spent the last three days in his apartment, it's no wonder steven wants to get some fresh air. he's been out with his pokémon all day, running errands and doing a little training to stretch them from their poké balls, but right now he's enjoying th day alone. it's nice to be able to walk outside without feeling paralyzed with fear.

[ needless to say, the night after hiro's big ol' info meeting gets adrien thinking. thinking a lot. gets adrien thinking so much that he probably didn't sleep very much that night, so engrossed in deciding whether or not telling steven the truth was a smart thing. the right thing. with the situation that they're in, he wants to be someone that steven can depend on as much as adrien depends on him—and... he's not sure if adrien can be that, not in the way chat noir can be. steven had died once; adrien swore to himself he wouldn't let it happen again.

[It has been a long month for Hiro, but that wasn't the subject of today. He actually needed a huge distraction from everything that's happened... So he figured that he'd spend that time through checking up on people. Steven just so happened to be that lucky winner.]

everything doing alright on your end?[ it's been more or less the same for steven, but june 30th was especially bad. after helping otome, being kidnapped and killing frisk's robot, becoming the target of blood magic and killing merrill's robot, and trying to deal with the exhaustion and emotional trauma that came with all of that... well, it's a little understandable that steven doesn't immediately respond to his message.
but the next day, after resting properly and taking some time to vent, he does reply. looks like he's stuck with a nickname now... ]

Neji had woken up only to find himself hoping (again) that he'd somehow earned himself a way back home-- of course, having the thought itself cemented the fact that no, he hadn't. And he had waited a little longer than he should have slumped on the floor before hoisting himself up. And breaking some bottles of hard spirits that had been on the shelf in that store because

A shower and entirely too much talking later, Neji had somehow managed to worm his way out of his teammate's grip. Because he's Neji Hyuga, damn it, and as far as he was aware he'd already waited entirely too long--
he finds Steven because he might lack his bloodline limit but not sharp eyes and the years of training in tracking. His fucking head was going to explode from the pressure he felt behind his eyes and from the hours of reeking of booze he never consumed, but the boy's stepping into the man's path with all the resolve in the world, cat-silent and just as ready to bolt.

[ that's certainly a way to start a conversation! though he's guilty of skipping hellos as well, and considering the circumstances, he won't say anything about it. it's only now that he's been able to reach his cerevice, and he's actually thankful that she's calling - his fingers are a little too numb for the motions that typing requires. ]

[ in many ways, skarmory is thankful for the freedom that steven gives him. while he isn't opposed to staying inside a poké ball, it prefers being able to keep a literal bird's eye view on things in the colony. he can protect his trainer better that way, and it's also a lot more fun.

[If Steven has been paying attention to Frisk's schedule over the past few days, he might have noticed it's gone completely off-rocker. That is to say: they've been staying in during daylight hours, heading out near nighttime, and generally changing up their usual habits. It's entirely possible he hasn't seen them in person since the 19th despite living in the same apartment building, and that is very intentional on Frisk's part.
... Which is why they're super duper startled when they pretty much poke their head out of their apartment, look both ways, and end up making eye contact with Steven as he heads up or down the hallway. Who knows what he's doing? It's a mystery. Adults are hecking weird, anyway.
But what isn't a mystery is the fact that Frisk is visibly freezing up at their doorway for two whole seconds, almost like they're considering heading back in. That doesn't happen, though, and a second later they're slowly letting go of the doorknob and closing the door behind them. They pause, pull down the oversized hoodie they're wearing over their usual sweater, and offer Steven a quick smile.]
