[A couple of moments pass, and then Sans sighs. Which is pretty weird for a skeleton with no visible lungs or anything like that.]

Yeah, I know.

That's why I'm here. I wanna talk about what to do with Frisk if things go belly up.

[ if he weren't so distracted with his own thoughts, he'd comment on how strange it was to see him in a state that wasn't seemingly carefree. but of course, now isn't the time for such remarks. ]

I intend to protect them in any way that I can.

[He can be serious... once in a blue moon. And only if that little human kid is involved.]

I'm talking about if one or both of us can't.

[ he'd be lying if it wasn't something he's thought about, but what sans is talking about is a very real possibility. ]

I'm almost surprised you're including me in such a notion.

[ seeing as steven isn't from their world, that is. ]

If I am incapacitated, my Pokémon know to work in my stead. At least for a while, they can keep Frisk safe.

[He glances up at Steven from his comfortable lounge and raises an 'eyebrow'.]

I dunno why you think I wouldn't include you, though. Frisk likes us both.

[ that gets a small smile from him. ]

Not wanting to impose, perhaps.

[ but that's all he'll say about it unless prompted. maybe it's a little silly now that he's thinking about it, but it's still something that's going to linger in his head. ]

And who would be the person you have in mind?

He's a human guy. Goes by Darin. One of those heroic do-good types.

If your buddies need an extra hand in taking care of Frisk, I'd trust him.

I mean... he tells some pretty outstanding puns. He has to be a good person.

I'm relieved to hear that.

[ and he really is. if he's managed to be some sort of help or guidance to frisk, then he's done his job. having recognition from others about it isn't necessary, but it's nice. ]

I've seen him here and there. I'd like to take your word on his trustworthiness, but I'd rather speak with him as well if we're all going to be on the same page.

[ puns are... not exactly what he'd consider a moniker of a good person, but it's a start. ]

I don't think we should go with a fancypants place, though.

[ well, he expected as much. "fancypants" places are far more up his alley than most - he gets it. it's easy to feel out of place if you're not used to them. ]
