[Edgeworth has been feeling really good since he made an offering to Occidi. Maybe it's because he did his civic duty and appeased that spirit after he, Athena and Hiro dealt with her...well, improperly. By giving a dead offering. Yeah.

Since he's got energy and time to spare, he places a call to Steven, since they hadn't spoken in a while.]

Good afternoon, Steven. It's been a while; if you have the time, would you like to have some tea?

[ ohhhhhh my god. he's actually quite relieved to hear edgeworth offer to go out - a calming cup of tea is what he needs to clear his head, and he knows that he can converse with the other and be understood. ]

It has been, hasn't it? [ said with a bit of a sigh. ] I'd like that. Is there any particular place you'd like to meet?

I highly recommend Tea for Two. My roommate owns it.

[Is he proud of his bro for having such great taste in tea and for running a pretty good business? Heck yes.]

Then I'll trust the recommendation. Can I meet you there in about an hour?

[ it's not a place that he's been to yet, so he's interested in seeing what it's all about. the fact that he'll be in good company is even better. ]

Absolutely. I'll see you then.

[Edgeworth will be waiting at one of the better tables, perusing a menu and occasionally looking up for any sign of cravat bro.]

[ well, that's a pleasant surprise! usually when a meeting is set with another person, he's the one to arrive first. it isn't hard to spot edgeworth at the (nicely located) table he's sitting at, and he meets his eyes with a small smile when he raises them. ]

It isn't often that I find another person fond of being fashionably early. I do hope I didn't keep you waiting long.

[A shake of the head as he gives a small smile in reply. He gestures for Steven to take his seat at the only other chair at the table. Another copy of the menu is there.]

No, not at all. How have you been?

[...all things considered?]

[ all things considered... things still kind of suck. his smile remains, but he does let out a gentle sigh. ]

I've had better days, if I may be completely honest. But I believe that it will pass with time.

[ misunderstandings and disagreements with friends, worries for others, general stress, sprinkles of insomnia... the hot dad life is hard. ]

I can only hope that you are doing better.

I am. And so is Pess.

[He lets out a soft breath as well, a serene expression on his face.]

All we can do is make the most out of these quiet days before the next...phenomenon.

That much is good to hear.

[ if a friend and his dog are doing well, then he can't feel completely down. ]

And knowing the pattern of things, it won't be long until the next one. New arrivals should be arriving within the next few days, shouldn't they?

That's right. [Edgeworth nods. Then he says softly, more to himself:] Many batches have arrived since the one I was part of.

It seems like ages ago, doesn't it?

[ he's been here for less time than edgeworth, of course... but looking back on his own arrival and all of the things that have happened since then make time feel stretched out. ]

It does. In September...it will have been a year.

[Anyway.]

Shall we order? Do you have any preferences?

[ for him, it's only going to come up on six months soon - he can't imagine spending an entire year here. but that's something he'll keep to himself. ]

Only green tea for me. I think I need something to unwind.

[Something simple would be nice. He waves a waiter over and asks for two green teas.]

Do your Pokémon feel the same way? [Wanting to unwind. His dog, on the other hand, seems perpetually full of energy despite all the strange things that happen.]

Thankfully, no. They're more concerned with keeping me in good spirits; especially the younger ones.

[ the thought makes him smile. aron and beldum don't battle much, which means that their energy is more focused on keeping him company when he doesn't want to open up to his human friends. he appreciates it more than they know. ]

Still, I can't help but worry if I'm putting too much pressure on them. [ he pauses, but he doesn't want to dwell for too long-- ] And how is Pess?

[That's always a relief, the Pokémon keeping Steven company. Even though Steven had friends here, it's the Pokémon who've known him for a much longer period of time and therefore know him better.

Edgeworth gives a relaxed smile of his own.]

He's the same; a constant source of companionship.

[A brief pause.] I don't think they feel any pressure from you. They're probably only too happy to oblige.

It's reassuring, isn't it? To have a small part of our worlds by our sides.

[ that much is true. even if they weren't human, his team knows him in a way that most, if not all of the people in the colony do not. there's a special relationship there. ]

I can only hope so. We've been keeping up with our training, but it's difficult to predict what might happen next.

[The mention of training makes Edgeworth's smile wane.]

At least they can fight. Pess, on the other hand, was never trained in combat.

...Then again, neither was I until my first foray into a different world.

[He's not talking about Cerealia.]

[ he can tell he's not speaking of cerealia, both from his expression and the the information edgeworth has given him in the past. he's an odd case, in the sense that the world he was taken from was not his own. ]

The one that you resided in before this one, correct?

[ it's something that steven is admittedly curious about. ]

That's correct.

[He nods, watching a waiter return with two steaming cups of green tea.]

At least, Pess never experienced that.
