[It's a relief to be able to travel around without feeling dragged down by the spirits' negative energy, not to mention much safer for everyone. A couple days after the hole in the wall's successfully sealed off, Korra grabs her glider staff and takes to the air.

She's just about done a loop around the Shopping District when she spies a friend below.]

Steven!

[Korra calls out to him before she angles the wings and swoops down toward him. She lands solidly on her feet, twirling the staff in her hand to retract the wings.] Out for a walk?

[ considering he's spent the last three days in his apartment, it's no wonder steven wants to get some fresh air. he's been out with his pokémon all day, running errands and doing a little training to stretch them from their poké balls, but right now he's enjoying th day alone. it's nice to be able to walk outside without feeling paralyzed with fear.

he's blissfully unaware of the young woman gliding above him until he hears his name called, to which he perks up to. it's definitely a surprise to see her... flying? but it only manifests itself in a smile and a wave as she descends. ]

You always seem to surprise me somehow whenever we meet, Korra. [ he sighs, but it's an endearing one. ] But yes, I am. After what happened with those spirits, I wasn't about to let myself stay cooped up indoors once they were sealed off again.

Not surprised--happy to run into a friend.

[Korra corrects him as she toys with her staff. Her gaze bounces from him to the wall, and then back to him again curiously.] Have you been flying out into the jungle?

[Though plenty of people mill about the barrier between them and the area outside of the colony, Steven's one of the few who could actually get over the wall to explore. Besides, he's new to Cerealia and curious enough to go investigating, from what she knows of him.]

But of course.

[ that's true! he's always happy to see friends, especially under good circumstances. but it's her next question that makes him raise a brow, and his eyes turn to the wall as well. ]

Little by little, yes. Skarmory and I have been exploring the outer perimeter, but we haven't gone too far into it just yet. Why do you ask?

You missed the whole surprise field trip the spirits sprung on us a little while ago.

[Smiling wryly, Korra leans against her staff slightly.]

There's a few things about the jungle you should probably know before you go out too far. Some pretty nasty monsters are lurking around in there, and you'll probably have some trouble breathing, too. It gets worse the longer you stay out there.

Field trip?

[ hoo boy, that doesn't sound good. he's only heard of said spirits through the guide of past events that had been posted to the network, but he's not too keen on meeting them personally. ]

My team should be able to keep the monsters well enough at bay... Though the trouble breathing could be a problem. The longest I've been out is a couple of hours, and I haven't had any noticeable problems.

They were trying to help us escape from CERES. Probably would've worked, but they didn't realize we'd have problems adapting to the air.

[She tilts her head, eyes lighting up with an idea.]

Wait--you didn't notice anything wrong at all?

No... not a thing.

[ he reads her expression, looking at her curiously. she seems surprised... and a little excited? ]

Is that strange?

[Korra just grins at him.]

Nah. It just means it's easier to tell which element and spirit you're aligned with. The ones who went with the air spirit are the only ones who didn't have trouble breathing until way later.

[She taps her chin thoughtfully, and then eyes him with something akin to mischief.]

While we're on that--how would you feel about a leaving the colony for a few days?

Element and spirit... So if I'm able to breathe without any problems, that implies that I'm aligned with air, doesn't it?

[ he recalls what the guide said, nodding. the air spirit... his name was "caeli", wasn't it? huh. he'll tuck that into his mind for pondering later - right now, he's taking notice of korra's expression again. ]

Are you suggesting an expedition?

[ he can't help but smile a little, too. ]

How'd you guess? [Absolutely no shame here.]

I've been thinking about checking out the jungle again, but the water spirit's the one that claimed me here. Apparently if you have someone air-aligned with you, that can take care of the problem, though.

Explorer's intuition.

[ oh man oh man, just the idea of this is getting him pumped. he saw some natural caves from his air surveys on skarmory, and he's been dying to check them out. if he has someone by his side, things will definitely be safer (and more fun). ]

In that case, I'd be more than happy to offer my services.

Really? [She beams at him, pleased that he didn't need that much convincing after all.]

Oh yeah, I should probably tell you what I'm looking for first. And how the whole air thing works, too.

Of course - that is, as long as you're willing to bear with my own plans for exploration.

[ caves, bruh. ]

Do tell.

[Reminded of her plans, Korra's expression immediately turns more sober.]

I was thinking there's so much spiritual stuff going on in the colony, maybe the jungle would give us some clues about what actually happened before we got here. Both CERES and the spirits keep dodging around the subject, so it looks like we'll have to do some digging around for answers on our own.

Anyway. [Korra shakes her head slightly.] What kind of plans did you have?

I must admit I'm a little curious about that, too. We won't get anywhere if we just wait around for information to be revealed to us. Even then, CERES has the power to pick and choose what they show. We need an unbiased, full story.

[ he seems pensive for a moment, but his expression lightens a bit. ]

They're a little less imperative than yours, I'm afraid. Others have managed to document common flora and fauna found beyond the wall, but there's little to no information on geological specimens. There are plenty of natural caves in the area, so I wanted to see what I could find and bring back for further study.

[ and for his collection, of course. ]

An unbiased, full story sounds like exactly what we need.

[If only there were easier ways of getting the information out of anyone who knew the answers..]

Huh. [Steven's own plans has her curious.] You're right. I've heard a bunch of things about the monsters and plants out there, but nothing about the types of rocks. Is that something you did back in your world, too?

[ he nods at her sentiment about an unbiased story, but he's much more animated at the point of talking about his passions. ]

Ah... Not as a career, but as a hobby. I'm an avid collector of rare stones, you see.

[There's a very noticeable shift in his attitude as soon as he starts talking about his hobbies, Korra can't help but grin.]

It's too bad we're nowhere near my world. My metalbending teacher collects a bunch of meteorites--and she probably could've helped you dig up some rare rocks with her earthbending, too. [A pause, as she makes a comical face.] What am I saying? I'm an earthbender, too. I'll help you look.

Meteorites?

[ he has some at home already, but the prospect of others is ridiculously intriguing. a new world meant new specimens to discover and collect, and he intends to do just that! ]

Would you really? I usually have my Pokémon help me, but your bending could definitely move the digging process along!

Yeah, meteorites. [A private little smile, like she's remembering something.] Apparently the people of Zaofu have a bunch of hobbies, and collecting meteorites is just one of them.

And, sure I would. I mean, you're helping me out here, too. This way, we can both find what we're looking for. [Hopefully.]

We have that in common, then.

[ holy shit, he's excited now. he's seen her earthbending in action, and having her helping by his side would be a lot less risky than aggron, seeing as how big and heavy he was. this could open so many doors. ]

That sounds like a plan to me! Hopefully our exploration will shed some light on a few things.

Great! Let's do this! [Okay, now she's getting pumped, too.]

If anything, we'll definitely get some rock samples for you to look at. [A sheepish laugh escapes her.]

I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. It might take us a lot of flying around before I even sense anything. If I sense anything.

[At least one of them will be happy though.]

Sometimes going in blind can lead to great discoveries, Korra. With your spiritual senses and my intuition, I'm confident we can find something worthwhile.

[ he's got a good hunch about this, and his hunches are never wrong! whatever they find, something is bound to be valuable. ]

[She looks at him, then smiles tentatively.]

Thanks. Let's make this trip a good one, okay?

[Steven's reassurance is appreciated, especially when she's feeling sore over her own abilities. With him being so optimistic, Korra feels some of her worries lighten.]

Soooo when do you think is a good time to go? We should give ourselves time to pack and everything.
