[ true to his word, the front yard is empty. what he does instead is reach behind him for two poké balls at his belt - wordlessly, he enlarges them from their portable state and throws them into the air. they each crack open with a flash of energy, revealing two verydifferent-looking monsters. ]
These are just two members of my team. [ he gestures to them properly: ] Carbink and Aggron.
[ the floor is open for questions! both pokémon are staring at jaune curiously - aggron gives a flick of its heavy tail, while carbink’s ears twitch inquisitively. ]
[ poor aggron looks more than a little dejected at not getting any attention, but steven will make up for that by coaxing him to lean down for some well-deserved head rubs. it’s okay, big guy. some people just like small and cute more than big and imposing...
carbink on the other hand, will turn to steven for confirmation on whether or not this new person is kosher. when he nods, it’ll hop its way over to jaune and stop at his feet, doing a friendly little twirl in greeting. always a crowd-pleaser... ]
I’m afraid I don’t do the species naming. [ read: i have no idea why it’s called that ] It’s just what we know this certain Pokémon to be.
From what I know about Grimm, it may be as similar as a comparison I can manage. Still, it's important to note that Pokémon can be unruly in the wild at worst, but never evil.
[ as the saying goes, there's no such thing as a bad pokémon. carbink is a little ambivalent to the sudden stranger cuddles at first, but gradually relaxes - its body is hard as diamonds, but the collar separating its body from its head is as soft and fluffy as cotton candy! aggron parts himself from his trainer's petting to watch jaune address him, opening his mouth in what appears to be its best attempt at a smile with a jaw that vicious. ]
That's about right. [ well done, jaune! full points to you. ] Though that's not to say that Carbink can't hold its own in battle as well - both of them are good friends of mine and essential members of my team.
Indeed. [ he nods. ] Some more than others. Carbink had been with me for a little over a year before arriving here, whereas Aggron was caught when I was a bit younger than you.
[ in fact, he was the first pokemon that he caught on his own - as an aron in granite cave. there are plenty of memories there; the fond look in his eye as he gazes up at aggron says as much. ]
I specialize in training Steel and Rock-type Pokemon; as I travel and meet new ones, my team tends to change.
Caught... you mean inside those little magic balls, right?
[ Not that Jaune thinks of these Pokemon as Steven's prisoners, but he's quietly wondering what the difference is, because there must be one. The Pokemon look happy in captivity... even inside those tiny balls. ]
Yes and no. Poké Balls are indispensable tools for Trainers, but they're the product of science and technology. Magic doesn't exist in my world.
[ as "magical" as some pokémon seem to be, it's all based on observable scientific phenomena. he's had to explain this enough times that he knows how to put people's worries at ease. ]
The relationship between Pokémon and their Trainers is a willing exchange. If they felt so inclined, any of them could easily break out of their Poké Balls and refuse to take my commands. They're designed for both comfort of the Pokémon and ease of portability.
[ even carbink will look up and nod its body as well as it can in jaune's hold. that's right! ]

...Wait, what do you mean? Did you, like, tie them up outside or something? I hope they're okay.

[ HOLY SHIT. They're so CUTE. Well, one of them!!! The other one looks like it could bite Jaune's face off. ]
AWESOME.
Can I touch Carbink? Which one's Carbink? The small one is Carbink, right? Why's it called Carbink?! Hi Carbink!
[ This is a better love story than Twilight. Don't worry, Aggron will have some attention soon, too! ]
neither of those links worked OH WELL YOU KNOW

IT'S COOL I FIGURED IT OUT
[ Jaune picks up Carbink in his arms, not finding it weird at all that he wants to cuddle a living rock. It's the bunny ears, man!!!
He turns to Aggron now, greeting the other Pokemon, too. ]
I bet you're a fierce fighter - I can see why they'd call you Aggron. Y'know, like... aggro. Aggressive-iron. Aggron! Hah, cracked it.
sasuga adi-kun!!

[ It sounds like they're both speaking from experience here. ]
Have you had them for a long time?
