[She skips inside and turns to look at him, still oozing cheerfulness...no, really, the air around her seems to glitter and sparkle.]

Remember when you bought me a really cute necklace and I wanted to repay you? Well...enjoying it wasn't enough for me. I had to repay you some more!

[ well then... while he's happy to see that she's (clearly) in bright spirits, he finds himself at a bit of a loss in how to react. ]

You really don't have to do that... though I assume that's what the box is for.

I thought I'd get some cake. [She chuckles.] I wanted to bake one, but...I'm not very good at baking.

[Also, the sight of Nora baking might send Weiss into hysterics.]

[ he knows that feel, nora... cooking is hard enough, so he can't even imagine how difficult baking is. ]

[ he reaches out to take the box, but lingers with his hand on the paper. ]

Though before I accept it, there is one thing I feel that I should let you know.

[Nora blinks, her smile fading into a curious expression.]

I'm of the firm belief that sweets are best enjoyed in good company.

[ see, he can be a little playful too. his smile even grows a little. ]

Seeing as you fit that description, I think it's only fair to ask if you'll join me.

[OH. WELL THEN. Nora laughs.]

Wow, thanks! I like the way you think. But I promise I won't hog the cake, okay? It's yours!

[ it's rare, but there are times that steven can be playful. this is one of those times. ]

Thank you for the confirmation. [ and he'll take the box properly. ] I'll make some tea to go with it - please, make yourself comfortable.

[ and he'll head over to the kitchenette to do just that! while nora settles in, she'll be able to spot aron and carbink having a nice midday nap on the couch. ]

[She nods before flopping onto the couch next to Aron and Carbink.

IF THEY DON'T MIND she'll be leaning on them, but if they mind, she'll stay on her end of the couch, k.]

[ WELL... carbink might mind a little since it likes its naps, but will still greet nora with a twitch of its ears. aron, on the other hand, will be jumping into her lap and getting comfortable again. she's more than a little heavier than she looks, but likely nothing nora can't handle.

meanwhile, steven will speak from the kitchen as he gets the kettle ready. ]

How have you been settling since your return?

[Nora pats Carbink before scooting away a bit to give it space, and while she wasn't prepared for Aron jumping into her lap, she allows it and starts stroking Aron.

She was indeed heavier than she looked, but Nora can lift heavier things, so.]

Everything's okay so far. Having a house to come back to helps a lot...and actually, someone else from home arrived.

I'm glad. I've spoken with Weiss - both of you seemed different after your disappearance, so I found myself a bit concerned.

[ surprise - he knows a friend of yours, nora! but he doesn't press any further than that for now - weiss had said that nora had been through some "bad things", and it isn't his place to push further when unprompted. ]

A friend, I hope?

[Good! Weiss should make more friends.]

Yeah. But she's not from the same time Weiss and I are. [Nora is still not sure what to make of that except to think that at least it was Ruby. If it were Cinder, or even Tyrian, who had been brought here...]

[ well... he wouldn't really call them friends at this point. fancy rich people take a bit of time for that to happen. ]

I'm sure that's caused a bit of confusion. Most, if not all of the people taken from my universe are from different points in time - some from different timelines altogether.

[ he'll be coming over with a tray now! tea has been made and served in two nice-looking cups, along with two slices of cake on individual plates. ]

[Do rich people make acquaintances then, instead of friends?

Nora perks up at the sight of tea and the cake, but her eyes widen when Steven mentions different timelines.]

Whoa. That must've been crazy when you guys first arrived. Ruby is only a year behind us.

[ pretty much, yeah. ]

Needless to say, it was quite a bit to wrap my head around... But it isn't something completely out of the realm of possibility for our world. Our status as Pokémon Trainers is what links us together.

[ with pokémon that can time travel and distort space existing as living legends, it isn't hard to take it as fact. humans could also travel between them with the right technology... but that's another story for another time.

he places the tray on the nearby coffee table, prompting aron to perk up from her nap and hop off of nora's lap to investigate. her nap was but a ruse - she just wanted to be comfortable. ]

Sooo...you're saying something like what happened to us could happen where you live?

[Nora follows Aron, taking in the aroma of the tea.]

I dunno if anything like that could happen...if someone had a Semblance powerful enough to throw people from Remnant into, say, your world.

Perhaps, in theory. I've never heard of an instance myself.

[ go ask gladion about that stuff. that kid knows all about wormholes and parallel universes!

he raises an eyebrow as he offers her slice of cake and a fork. ]

Oh! [Nora can't remember if she ever mentioned Semblance or Aura to Steven, or if she just mentioned it in passing.] Okay, so everyone back home has an Aura, which is like a soul. That's used to fuel a Semblance, a kind of...ability.

Weiss has one, too.

And these abilities work to your strengths and assist you in battle. Is that right?

[ believe it or not, he actually catches onto it pretty quickly. pokémon don't have auras (at least not in the sense that nora speaks about), but they do have abilities that can be shared amongst types or be attributed to an individual species. ]

[kaboop]

Yup. Mine is electricity - I can channel it through my body.

[SHE'S AN ELECTRIC POKEYMANS.]

That's... shocking.

[ see what he did there? but it's true - he wouldn't have pinned that as nora's ability. but that's not to say that it isn't incredibly cool, because it is. use thunderbolt, child. ]

I think Weiss has mentioned Semblances to me in the past, but she didn't call it by that name. It was "summoning", if I recall correctly.

[Oh, she saw what you did there, Steven. She snorts.]

That's exactly what hers is, yeah. But she can do some other things with it, like help people walk on walls or freeze stuff.

They sound as unique as the people that harness them.

[ and intriguing! he'd love to see some of them in action and compare them to a pokémon's moves, thinking about it as he pours tea for the both of them. ]
